Integrative Eye Care

What is Integrative Eye Care?

Integrative Eye Care uses an evidence-based approach to treat the whole person — your mind, body and soul. Your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs are all involved, so integrative eye care uses a combination of therapies. It “integrates” conventional approaches and complementary therapies to achieve optimal eye health and healing.

Who can benefit from Integrative Eye Care?

If you suffer from any of the following, you can benefit from Integrative Eye Care:

  • Headaches
  • Dry Eyes
  • Cataracts
  • Macula Degeneration
  • Glaucoma

Micronutrient deficiencies that may be associated with eye diseases include Vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium. Several micronutrients are known to be helpful for eye health, such as lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Western dietary pattern, which includes poor-quality fats, red meat, highly processed foods, sweets and desserts, and sugar-sweetened beverages, is linked to an increased risk for age-related eye diseases.

Exposure to UV radiation is linked to an increased risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. Wearing sunglasses can reduce your exposure to UV radiation.

How can I get Integrative Eye Care?

To enroll in our integrative eye care program, you must schedule an initial exam with Dr. Lauretta.  During this visit, Dr. Lauretta will perform a comprehensive eye exam. Based on the findings of that exam, Dr. Lauretta will discuss the benefits of the integrative eye care program and schedule your first visit.

At the initial integrative eyecare consult, Dr. Lauretta will review your integrative health history and perform multiple diagnostic tests to determine your individual nutritional needs including the S3 antioxidant Scan. Once all testing is done, she will prescribe a plan with the proper supplements & key nutritional changes required to optimize your ocular health.

S3 Antioxidant Scan

The Antioxidant scan is a cutting edge device used to measure antioxidant levels. At Millennium Eye Center, we want to make sure our patients have as much information as possible available to make the healthiest choices – not just for their eyes, but for their overall health. Using this small device, we are now able to tell specifically and precisely what your antioxidant levels are and provide you with a personalized report.
